I have a folder on my computer desktop titled "Pictures to Organize" and I just drag and drop (I have a MacBook Pro) pictures I come across on the internet that I find funny or interesting or think I'd like to share with a friend, etc. I was going through it and found this:
This combines two things I super-like: truth about how I feel and Hyberbole and a Half's "CLEAN ALL THE THINGS" (now) meme. Changing the clocks (either forward or backward by an hour) makes me feel all magicky and awesome. In an "I CHANGED TIME!!! I MADE (OR GOT RID OF) AN HOUR!!! I SPED FORWARD!!!/I MOVED BACK IN TIME!!! TIME TRAVEL!!!
To clarify, I get this feeling whenever I travel between different time zones as well. For example, whenever flying between Korea and the NY, either skipping a whole day or taking off and then landing earlier on the SAME day FIGURATIVELY blows my mind.

"I totally support you peeing anywhere..."
| Source |
Soooooooooo, I totally said that recently to a friend at a cafe after lunch... and realized AS IT WAS LEAVING MY MOUTH that it didn't properly convey what I meant. So here I will explain.
What I meant to say was, "No, I don't mind sitting here alone while you go to the bathroom because I totally and completely understand and encourage going to the bathroom whenever there is one available when you are out and about and about to leave your current location." That is what I meant to say - but I didn't have enough time to get it out (haha, pun?) before she walked away.
Where do these sentiments come from? What is the source of my magnanimous attitude towards my companions abandoning me to use the bathroom? Well, that answer can be found a month or two ago. Ooh, my transformation occurred on Sunday, January 22, 2012. That is because Google just told me that the Lunar New Year in 2012 occurred on Monday, January 23, 2012 (also, Google calls it "Chinese New Year," which I find somewhat offensive and surprisingly inaccurate). In honor of Lunar New Year, my dad took our family to Flushing for Sunday dinner, to get some truly authentic Asian (Korean) food, it being a "new year" and all.
As per my usual habit, I had consumed at least 4 glasses of 8 oz. of water with the meal. I like to stay hydrated. Also, this was a habit I developed in college when my stomach was a bottomless, ravaging pit that nothing could satisfy. My solution to neverending hunger, at least from a financial (and somewhat calorical) standpoint) was to try and fill some of that bottomless pit with calorie-free, free to drink, water. Unless I gulped down water any time food wasn't actively in my mouth, one app, one entree, one dessert, and one drink was NOT enough to fill me up. And really, you can't afford to spend more than $30-50 per meal in Durham, NC. I normally had at least one full glass before any food arrived. Another 2-3 glasses during the app/entree, and at least one more glass during dessert. And this is in addition to any alcoholic beverage I might enjoy.
So back to the point, I had drank a not-so-modest amount of water. As I considered the at least an hour drive back to my house, I figured I would be fine (in terms of when I would need a bathroom next). Also, while the food at this particular restaurant was quite tasty, it was also a bit "dive-y," and so I had my doubts about the cleanliness of the bathroom. About halfway home, I realized my body was sending me messages and I hoped we'd get home soon. Then something happened that made me realize God (or the universe, which may even be one and the same) wanted me to learn a very specific lesson that night.
As we were rolling along the highway, a tire blew out, we had a flat. My dad slowly pulled over to the side of the highway, a mere ONE exit away from the one we take to our house!!! As he got out of the car I asked how long it would take and informed my parents that I was "urgent" (in Korean, if you say you are "urgent," that is a euphemism for having to use the bathroom - I learned this after a super-crazy cab ride in Korea when I told a taxi driver "I am urgent" meaning I was in a hurry but he thought I was going to use his vehicle as a lavatory).

I don't want to comment on the substance on the article, either to defend or criticize. Because I could do both/either. (Maybe I will later...).

Duke v. UNC.
We win the class war (on who is classier).
Interesting, easy-to-read piece on watching Saturday's game from within enemy territory from Grantland.
And today's image, a bittersweet image of all that I love: grammatical snobbery in the face of UNC with just a touch of class and manners.

Linsanity.
Oops, it's been quite a bit since I've posted.
Let's play a little catch up - I heard back from that interview and now the crazy nightmares have stopped.
A certain Harvard grad has been reigniting New Yorkers' love for basketball. Ooh, yea let's just stay on that because that's fun and relevant and also, there are sweet pun-ny t-shirts involved.
This is my official favorite t-shirt:
If you prefer something with somehow both a little less and a little more emphasis:
But THEN, there's this awesome one. It's not the most original or clever but the tone is so obnoxious. How can I not love it?
And the last of my favorites. Because I can't NOT sing/say "Everyday I'm husss-sell-lin" in my head as I read it.

Comic sans fights back.
I very much agreed with the many different articles and posts out there about how Comic Sans is inappropriate for resumes and cover letters and the like.
Here, is the response.

Another dream ghost.
![]() |
| Role reversal, though. |
But this time I was the ghost.
As I've been mentioning, I've been having a larger than usual occurrence of rather negative and terrifying dreams. About a week ago, I dreamt that one of my goddaughters had died. This was tragic for so many reasons. But as her mother told me how my goddaughter had felt about me I just felt this empty wrenching hole in my stomach. It was this intense tightening of the stomach - I'm not sure I'm explaining this well but that's how it felt. Like a black hole of ridiculous gravity-power was in the middle of my torso and wrenching everything I could feel into it.
A few nights ago I had another dream. This time I was the one who died. Not only did I die, but I was a ghost, and able to interact with the world I'd left behind. I have no idea how I died or how much time had passed (but not too much) between my death and my realizing I was a ghost in my dream-world. But I had a significant other (SO). I've heard/read that the human brain can NOT create faces, so clearly the face was someone I'd encountered somewhere, but I didn't recognize him then, and I don't recollect it now. I was an invisible ghost trying to tell this significant other that I was still here, that I could still see him, that I could still hear him.
This sounds creepy now, but since I started, I might as well finish. So, in my dream world (in which, nothing else was different from our real world), if a ghost concentrated super hard and focused super intensely, we could take some physical form and affect things in the real world. So for me, I had to focus really hard on holding a pen and writing (really, it was scrawling because it was so difficult) "I'm here" on a piece of paper in the same room as the SO.
I had been trying to reach out to him already, and maybe this is something I picked up from Casper (the movie with Devon Sawa) or perhaps Harry Potter, but if I came into "contact" with a human they felt a chill. Not everywhere, but just where the contact was. So I had been trying to touch him, hold his hand, his shoulder, and he just kept looking for an open window or other source of the chill. After he saw the "I'm here" he froze. And somehow he knew. He knew that the chills had been me trying to touch him and let him know I was here.
And I knew he was waiting for me now. So I took both his hands - and by "took" I mean somehow my hands were going THROUGH his but in the same space so he felt a chill there. And then we kissed. And by "kissed" I mean his lips felt a chill from mine being there.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. This is so embarrassing to share. It's like a ridiculous Nicholas Sparks novel but usually/slash/ALWAYS the girl is the SO (because let's face it, this is a story/movie that only works and that we could only enjoy if the girl were left behind and grieving and the GUY were a ghost who was staying behind to comfort her) and Gerard Butler or some other B-list actor with soulful eyes were the ghost-lover.
Anyway, the POINT is that I felt that same feeling again. That same black hole of gravity in my stomach feeling. Like missing and wanting something so badly that I've missed out on and can never have again.
I have had a rather stress-inducing past 3 weeks, in a very passive sense, waiting to hear on something. And perhaps these dreams have only occurred in that span of time. I wasn't paying close enough attention to be sure. But hopefully this is just a symptom of that feeling, of being powerless and just waiting for an outcome that is, at this point, wholly out of my control.
I sure hope so.

Can someone please tell me, what is the point of chives? Maybe the make some foods pretty, but they don't taste like anything...

If Sherlock Holmes were a bit racist.
So, I've had a long week and made plans to meet my family at our Korean sauna after work. I've taken the bus to the sauna before when I was still living in the city. So, no big deal right?
Wrong. Now that I'm a commuter, I have a monthly NJTransit bus pass and it turns out the bus I need to take is a Rockland Coach line bus. Meaning they won't honor my monthly pass and I have to buy a new ticket. No way. I'm not paying for another ticket when I'm already entitled to a ride into NJ from NJTransit.
From my own keen memory I remember that in all my time spent on Broad Avenue (2 blocks from my destination) I've consistently seen 166 line buses. Score. I now know which line to take. But which gate???
Luckily for me, my own usual bus gate is in the farthest remotest corner of the terminal. This means I've passed lines of people at nearly all the other gates. I've also noticed that there are an unusually disproportionately high percentage of Asian folks in the lines at the cluster of Gates 208 through 214.
Aha!!! All those Asians must mean at least one thing!!! Not only is that where the Bergen County bus lines are but it's also where the Bergen County bus lines that go to super-Asian places are. Like my own destination!!!
Having thus narrowed down which bus to take and where I need to be to take it i walked towards that cluster and start looking at the tables next to each gate for the right line.
Yes. There it is. Line 166 with service to Palisades Park departing from Gate 211 Door 2. Don't mind if I do. I feel so accomplished. :)
Can you tell I really used to love Nancy Drew and that I really currently love Sherlock Holmes?

Talking clock!
![]() |
| Source |
A drunk was proudly showing off his new apartment to a couple of his friends late one night.
He led the way to his bedroom where there was a big brass gong and a mallet.
'What's that big brass gong?' one of the guests asked.
'It's not a gong. It's a talking clock,' the drunk replied.
'A talking clock? Seriously?' asked his astonished friend.
'Yup,' replied the drunk.
'How's it work?' the friend asked, squinting at it.
'Watch,' the drunk replied. He picked up the mallet, gave the gong an ear-shattering pound, and stepped back.
The three stood looking at one another for a moment.......
Suddenly, someone on the other side of the wall screamed, 'You jackass! It's three-fifteen in the morning!'

Talk the English good.
I've seen this poem before but forgot until I saw it on a friend's wall whilst poking about on Facebook.
Maybe I'll record myself reading it and post it - clearly I have perfect pronunciation =)
EDIT/UPDATE: This is what happens when I rush-schedule posts. I miss images from my hoard that go together (because, let's face it - everyone likes a post with pictures!).

Oh, the gym.
Because clearly so many people (will) make resolutions about losing weight or getting in better shape: snarky and hilarious "rules" or things to know about "the gym."
My favorite? Rule 11:

Gyms have two types of members: Members who wipe down the machines after using them, and the worst people in the universe.

Not dressed.
For the weather that is. I forgot that a January 50 degrees is not the same as an April 50 degrees. Thusly, I think I chose a too-light/thin coat this morning. Oh, well.
Also, I am wearing two pairs of pants (don't worry about it). And while not nearly as uncomfortable as I'd expected, I do feel a bit like Joey, below.
And the video, here. LOL my face off (yes, I know that makes no sense, but it's Friday at nearly 3pm).
Hands down, "The One Where No One is Ready" is one of my top 3 favorite episodes of Friends.

Sacrifices that are worth it.
Left work at 8pm yesterday. But still with a smile on my face.
Why? I'm working late to do all the work I can't do next week. Because I'll be beachside in Mexico :D
Will be pulling long days for the rest of the week but I'm sure it'll be worth it.
Excited for my week of fun in the sun. Especially since this past weekend my mom bought me my BARBIE BATHING SUIT!!!
It's this top:
With this bottom:
So this bathing suit but in the above color:
I FREAKING LOVE IT!!! I LOVE IT SO MUCH that I danced around the store wearing it and singing "I'M A BARBIE I'M A BARBIE!!!" until my mom just bought it for me (mostly I think to make me take it off and stop terrorizing other customers).
Then I came home and wore it for five hours and kept singing "I'M A BARBIE I'M A BARBIE!!!" until I had to get ready for a New Year's Eve party. And even then, my mom and sister had to convince me I couldn't wear my new bathing suit to the party SADFACE.
SO EXCITED!!!!

Fetish? Proper grammar, please.
So ridiculous, but true (for me).
Total turnoffs?
True confession: One of the reasons I've never dated a "native," an "organic," or FOB guy: I don't think I could fight the urge to correct every little linguistic mistake...
EEK. Am I a horrible, anal person?
Total turnoffs?
- People who say "would of"/"could of"/"should of"
- People who don't know "their/there/they're"
- People who don't know "it's/its"
- People who don't know "your/you're/yore"
- People who can't spell
- People who use incorrect grammar
- AND OMG WHERE DID THIS ONE EVEN COME FROM: People who say "WAH-LA" or some such bastardization of "voilà "

Marketing that makes women feel insecure works.
Walking on sidewalk to orthodontist appointment and a sandwich board guy for eyebrow waxing looks at me and laughs under his breath. Now I'm totally self conscious about my eyebrows. Should I go in and get them done? O.o
